The Future Stars Program is Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA) 4’s way of meeting the needs of the youth population in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Cumberland, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane and Scott counties. Future Stars is a year-round youth program with intensive leadership, academic enrichment and work experience components in the summer. The program targets high school students who will be seniors. Future Stars participants earn points in the various components and advance to different levels. During their senior year, Future Stars participate in regional Super Saturday leadership events and Youth Coordinators work closely with participants and educators to assist the youth in being successful academically. Those who complete their senior year are eligible to participate in a Leadership Academy and receive scholarships to attend post-secondary training. With the advent of Gateway testing in Tennessee high schools, a Pre-Stars component has been added to Future Stars. High school students who have not successfully completed the Gateway tests are targeted for additional assistance. Since inception in Summer 2001, approximately 800 youth have participated in Future Stars activities.
